FAQ

Everything you need to know

We know that reaching out for counselling can feel daunting. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often and if yours isn’t here, just ask us.

Q1: How much does counselling cost at Anointed Ashes?

A: Individual counselling sessions are from £40 per session (50 minutes). Couples therapy and
family sessions are from £55 per session (60 minutes). We also offer a free 15-minute consultation for all new clients, and a block of 6 individual sessions for £229 saving you £11. We believe counselling should be affordable, and these prices reflect that commitment.

Q2: Do I need a GP referral to access counselling?

A: No. You do not need a GP referral or any other referral to access our counselling services. You can self-refer directly by completing our contact form or calling us. You’ll be booked in for a free 15-minute consultation as your first step.

Q3: Can I access counselling from outside Leeds?

A: Yes, absolutely. Our online counselling service is available to anyone in the UK and
internationally. Whether you’re in Manchester, London, Edinburgh, or another country entirely, you can access the same quality therapy via secure video call. Sessions are identical in quality to in-person therapy, and research confirms that online counselling is equally effective for most conditions.

Q4: Is Faith Julius BACP registered ?

A: Yes. Faith Julius is a fully registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). BACP registration means Faith works within a strict ethical framework,
maintains confidentiality, and commits to ongoing professional development. You can
verify BACP membership directly on the BACP website.

Q5: What happens in the first counselling session?

A: Your first session is warm and unhurried. We’ll begin by checking in on how you’re
feeling and discussing what’s brought you to counselling. You share as much or as little
as you feel comfortable with, there’s no pressure to tell everything straight away.
Together, we’ll begin to understand what you’re carrying and what you’d like our work together to focus on. Many clients leave their first session feeling relieved, heard, and hopeful.

Q6: Is counselling confidential?

A: Yes. Everything discussed in your sessions is strictly confidential. The only exceptions which Faith will always discuss with you openly are if there is a serious risk of harm
to yourself or others, or in certain legal circumstances. We work within the BACP’s ethical
framework, which places confidentiality at its core.

Q7: How many counselling sessions will I need?

A: This varies from person to person. Some clients feel meaningful change in 6–8
sessions; others find ongoing longer-term support more helpful. We don’t impose a minimum or maximum. We’ll review how things are going regularly, and you always
decide how long you continue. Many clients notice something shifting within the first two or three sessions.

Q8: Do I need to be a Christian to access faith-rooted counselling?

A: No. Faith-rooted counselling is entirely optional and is integrated only if you wish. We welcome clients of all faiths, no faith, and every background. Your spiritual identity whatever it is, is treated with respect and curiosity, never imposed upon. Most of our clients simply want professional, compassionate counselling, and that’s exactly what they get.

.

Q9: What technology do I need for online counselling?

A: Very little. You’ll need a device with a camera and microphone a smartphone, tablet, or laptop and a stable internet connection. Before each session, you’ll receive a secure link. Just click it and you’re in. No accounts, no downloads required. We recommend a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable to speak freely.

Q10: Can couples attend sessions from different locations?

A: Yes. Because our couples sessions are online, each partner can join from a different
location if needed, ideal for long-distance couples, those who travel for work, or
couples who’d like to attend separately for any reason. You’ll each receive the same
session link and join together virtually.

Q11: How do I cancel or reschedule a session?

A: We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling where possible.
Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged at the full session rate. Life
happens, and we always try to be understanding. Just let us know as soon as you can.

Q12: Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face counselling?

A: Yes. Research from the British Journal of Psychiatry and multiple clinical studies confirms that online therapy is equally effective as in-person therapy for the majority of conditions including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Many clients actually prefer the convenience and privacy of online sessions.
